About UAB Blazer Basketball
"The University of Alabama at Birmingham Blazers didn’t have an athletic program until 1979. However, the Blazers exploded onto the scene advancing to the NCAA elite eight in basketball in only their fourth season. The UAB Blazers were a basketball powerhouse throughout the eighties advancing to the NCAA tournament seven years in a row. The Blazers men’s and women’s basketball programs play their home games in the Bartow Arena on the AUB campus. Bartow Arena has a capacity of over 8,500. The Blazers play in Conference USA. Major rivals include Birmingham Southern, Mississippi State, Alabama A&M, Houston, Memphis, Tulane, South Florida, Southern Miss, Cincinnati, Louisville, Marquette and TCU."

"Conference USA is one of the youngest conferences in college sports having been formed in 1995. However, C-USA has quickly made a name for itself with its overall outstanding play in basketball and football, as it has in a number of additional sports. In basketball, Cincinnati, Marquette, Louisville and Memphis have become post-season regulars and the conference has continuously placed teams near the top of the national ranking. In football, Conference USA has frequently sent teams to bowl games and has bowl contracts with the Liberty Bowl, the GMAC Bowl, the Houston Bowl, the New Orleans Bowl and the brand new Hawaii Bowl. C-USA programs include, Army, Charlotte, Cincinnati, Depaul, East Carolina, Houston, Louisville, Marquette, Memphis, Saint Louis, South Florida, Southern Miss, TCU, Tulane and UAB." |
