Buffalo Sabre History
"The NHL arrived in Buffalo in 1969, when the league awarded Seymour and Northrup Knox the franchise that would soon be named ""Sabres"". The team has reached the Stanley Cup Finals twice, most recently in 1999, but has never won the coveted title. The Sabres had one of the game’s best goaltenders, Dominik Hasek, play for them for most of the 90s when he won two Hart Trophies (MVP) and four Vezina Trophies (best goaltender). Although the Sabres are struggling through a difficult year they hope for brighter futures ahead."
Buffalo Sabre Information
"The Buffalo Sabres play in the NHL’s Eastern Conference Northeast Division. Division rivals include the Boston Bruins, Montreal Canadiens, Ottawa Senators, and Toronto Maple Leafs. Major rivalries include Sabres vs. Flyers, Sabres vs. Stars and Sabres vs. Maple Leafs."
HBSC Arena
"The Sabres play in the HSBC Arena located in downtown Buffalo. The $127 million stadium opened in 1997 and also serves as the home to the AFL’s Destroyers. The building can draw a maximum crowd of 18,595 for Sabres’ games, while concerts can accommodate 20,500. The first concert act booked was Buffalo's own Goo Goo Dolls with Barenaked Ladies on September 28, 1996. The concert followed the September 27 opening gala." |
