Florida Panther History
"The Florida Panthers have been representing Southern Florida in the NHL since 1993. After a solid expansion draft, which included goalie John Vanbiesbrouk and forward Rob Niedermayer, the Panthers didn’t take long to rise to the top of the Eastern Conference. In the team’s first season they set a record with 74 points, most ever by a first year expansion team. In the 1995 season the Panthers finish fourth in the Eastern Conference however, behind strong play from Vanbiesbrouk the team coasts through the playoffs before losing to Colorado in the Stanley Cup Finals. For a relatively young team, the Panthers have made great strides and are sure to be a competitive franchise in the future."
