"The Edmonton Oilers' history spans 26 seasons. The Oilers begin life as a charter member of the World Hockey Association in 1972 and evolved into one of the NHL’s powerhouses. The summer of 1979 produced a large announcement for the team when the Oilers were accepted into the National Hockey League. The teams quickly become one of the most dominant in NHL history and at one time had Wayne Gretzky, Mark Messier, Jari Kurri and Grant Fuhr all on the same team. The Oilers won five Stanley Cups in a six-year span from 1984 to 1990."
