Anaheim Mighty Duck History
"The Mighty Ducks joined the NHL for the start of the 1993 season. Owned by the Disney Corporation, it was a given that the Ducks would be anything but a ""traditional"" hockey operation. Their name itself came from the hugely successful, hockey-themed kids movie, ""The Mighty Ducks"". Their Disney-esque logo, somewhat of a cross between a goalie's mask and a mad duck, was an instant success that quickly won favor with kids and adults alike across North America. The team came out of the gates strong and the Ducks set a record for road victories in their inaugural season."
Anaheim Mighty Duck Information
"The Ducks play in the Western Conference Pacific Division. Division rivals include the Dallas Stars, San Jose Sharks, Los Angeles Kings and Phoenix Coyotes. Major rivalries include Ducks vs. Sharks, Ducks vs. Kings and Ducks vs. Coyotes."
Arrowhead Pond
"The Ducks play their home games in The Arrowhead Pond of Anaheim. The $120 million arena was built in 1993 and seats approximately 17,000 fans for hockey games. The Pond features include marble concourses, glass archways and brass fittings. Disney's focus on family entertainment is apparent at Ducks games. The team showed the movie version of the Disney film ""Mighty Ducks"" before the team hit the ice for the first time. Fans even blow on their duck callers - about 2,000 are sold at each game - every time the team scores." |
