Washington Capital History
"The Capitals joined the NHL in 1974. Like almost all expansion teams, the Capitals struggled mightily in their formative years. The original Capitals, a weak team that competed for talent with the three-year-old World Hockey Association, would set a number of NHL records for futility, including most losses (67), fewest victories (8) and most consecutive road losses (37). However, once the team got on track, the Capitals became playoff regulars with 14 consecutive appearances from 1983 to 1996."
Washington Capital Information
"The Capitals play in the Eastern Conference Southeast Division. Division rivals include the Tampa Bay Lightning, Atlanta Thrashers, Florida Panthers and Carolina Hurricanes. Major rivalries include Capitals vs. Flyers, Capitals vs. Penguins and Capitals vs. Hurricanes."
MCI Center
"The Capitols play at the MCI Center in the heart of Washington D.C. The $260 million complex was completed in 1997 and is also home to NBA’s Wizards, the WNBA’s Mystics and the Georgetown University men’s basketball team. The arena seats about 20,000 fans for hockey games and also hosts a number of concerts and entertainment events. George Strait, Disney on Ice and the 2003 World Championships of Figure Skating are just some of the scheduled events at the MCI Center this year." |
