"The Colorado Avalanche, formerly the Quebec Nordiques, stormed into Denver for the start of the 1995 season after spending 15 years north of the border. The team quickly repaid Colorado for its hospitality as it went on to win the Stanley Cup, the franchises first, in 1996. Led by Patrick Roy, the all-time leader in games played and wins for a goalie, and Joe Sakic, one of the best two-way players in the game, the Avalanche have been Western Conference powerhouses since their move."
