Carolina Hurricane History
"After a few years of suspicion, Hartford Whalers' owner announced on March 26, 1997, that he will relocate the franchise for the 1997-98 season. That’s when the Hartford Whalers became the Carolina Hurricanes. Carolina has seen its team rise to the top of the Eastern Conference rather quickly as the Hurricanes vied for the Stanley Cup after winning the conference in 2002. Carolina is struggling to regain the form it showed in 2002 but hopes to make a run at the playoffs before the season ends."
Carolina Hurricane Information
"The Hurricanes play in the Eastern Conference Southeast Division. Division rivals include the Washington Capitals, Atlanta Thrashers, Florida Panthers and Tampa Bay Lightning. Major rivalries include Hurricanes vs. Red Wings, Hurricanes vs. Devils and Hurricanes vs. Capitals."
RBC Center
"The Hurricanes play at the RBC Center in Raleigh, North Carolina. The $152 million RBC Center, which opened in 1999, encompasses approximately 700,000 square feet and four different seating levels that provide 19,000 seats for hockey games, 20,000 for basketball games, 21,000 for center stage concerts, and 20,500 for arena end performances. The arena had a difficult beginning. It began as a home for North Carolina State University, but evolved when the Hartford Whalers agreed to move to Raleigh. The needs of the NHL team pushed up the cost and funding became a difficult issue. The RBC Center hosts such events like the Dave Matthews Band, Billy Joel and Disney on Ice." |
