Houston Texan History
"The Texans played their inaugural season in the NFL at the start of the 2002 season. In their first season, behind first round pick David Carr the Texans won four games. The team became the first expansion team in 41-years to win its opening game. That year, the team also defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2002, the eventual AFC North champs. The team did so despite gaining only 47-yards on offense the lowest output by a winning team in NFL history."
Houston Texan Information
"The Texans play in the American Football Conference West Division. Division rivals include Indianapolis Colts, Jacksonville Jaguars and Tennessee Titans. Major rivalries include Texans vs. Cowboys."
Reliant Stadium
"The Texans play their home games in Reliant Stadium located in downtown Houston. The $300 million stadium opened in 2002 and seats approximately 70,000 fans for a football game. One of the most notable aspects of the design is the unique operable fabric roof. While the NFL teams prefer to play their games in open-air stadiums, the stadiums owners, because of the winter event schedule, have strict requirements to hold its events indoors under more controlled environments. As a result of these two opposing ideals, the need for a retractable roof was apparent from the start. The NFL could also take advantage of the roof during the hot preseason and early season home games in southern Texas by offering a fully air-conditioned stadium for the spectators. The two retractable roof panels, each consisting of five parallel triehord trusses, open about the centerline of the field in a direction parallel to the sidelines." |
