Atlanta Falcon History
"The Falcons joined the NFL in 1965. The teams first season they tied an expansion record by winning three games in their inaugural season. In 1971, in the last game of the season, the Falcons beat the Saints giving the franchise it’s first winning season. The team’s 1977 defense set a then NFL record for fewest points allowed in a 14-game season with 129. In 1978, the team won it’s first playoff game over Philadelphia, the game was won when the Eagles field goal kickers missed a 34-yard field goal in the final seconds. Two years later the franchise would earn its first division title. In 1989, Deion “Prime Time” Sanders becomes the first player to hit a home run (for the Yankees) and score a touchdown (as a punt return for the Falcons) in the same week. In ’91, Sanders signs with the Atlanta Braves making him the first to play two sports in the same city in 30 years. Also in ’91, the team recorded its first playoff victory on the road when they beat the Saints. In 1998, the team won the NFC Championship game and earned the right to play in their first Super Bowl. Unfortunately for the team, they lost to the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl XXXIII."

Georgia Dome
"The Falcons play their home games in the Georgia Dome located in downtown Atlanta. The $214 million stadium opened in 1992 and seats approximately 71,000 people. Built especially for football, the Dome sparkles and draws applause even from the pundits who said they'd never root for a team in, or even go inside, an enclosed stadium. Unlike most other domes, this one doesn't resemble an erector set. Atlanta's indoor play-ground has a billowy roof and attractive teal colors on the outside; 150 tree's dot the property and mammoth windows allow natural light to fill the interior walkways. The dome's Teflon-coated Fiberglas fabric roof weighs just 68 pounds, but it is strong enough to support a fully loaded pickup truck." |
