"Professional football arrived in Indianapolis in 1984 after the franchise moved from Baltimore. However, the franchise dates back to 1946 when the team was located in Maryland. In 1958, the Colts clinched their first division title. Five years later the team hired Don Shula as its head coach. Under Shula, the team made it’s first Super Bowl appearance losing Super Bowl III to the Jets. In 1966, Johnny Unitas was 13-22-252 yards passing at Los Angeles in 17-3 win to become the NFL’s alltime leader in passing yardage with 28,375 yards. In 1983 the Colts has the first pick in the draft, NFL and selected Stanford quarterback John Elway. Six days later the Colts traded Elway to Denver in exchange for the Broncos’ 1983 first round choice, offensive tackle Chris Hinton, along with quarterback Mark Herrmann and Denver’s first round choice in the 1983 NFL Draft. In 1984, the team moved to Indianapolis."

"The Colts play their home games in RCA Stadium located in downtown Indianapolis. The $82 million stadium opened in 1982 and seats approximately 60,000 fans for football games. The RCA Dome, formerly known as the Hoosier Dome sits near the heart of Indianapolis. It has a Teflon-coated fiberglass roof 19 stories high and weighs 257 tons. A day and a half is needed to set up the Dome for a Colts game, because workers have to roll out 28 -15 foot rolls of AstroTurf, each weighing two tons."
