Kansas City Chief History
"The Chiefs are one of the AFL’s oldest teams having been founded in 1959. The team advanced to the AFL-NFL championship game in 1966, but was no match for the Green Bay Packers, who defeated the Chiefs, 35-10. The contest later was dubbed the Super Bowl. Four years later, with Len Dawson at quarterback, the Chiefs defeated the Vikings 23-7 in Super Bowl IV. Then the futile years began, the Chiefs failed to make the playoffs for 15-years. However, the team’s fortunes changed when they hired Marty Schottenheimer to be their seventh head coach. Behind Schottenheimer the team reached the playoff six consecutive years. When he stepped down in 1999, Schottenheimer was the Chiefs’ all-time winningest coach."
Kansas City Chief Information
"The Chiefs play in the American Football Conference West Division. Division rivals include the San Diego Chargers, Denver Broncos and Oakland Raiders. Major rivalries include Chiefs vs. Raiders and Chiefs vs. Broncos."
Arrowhead Stadium
"The Chiefs play their home games in Arrowhead Stadium located in Kansas City. The $43 million stadium was built in 1972 and can seat approximately 80,000 fans for football games. Undoubtedly one of the finest facilities in the NFL, Arrowhead and the fans who consistently fill it (43 consecutive sell-outs) have helped produce a distinct home-field advantage for the Chiefs. Since 1992, no NFL team has a better regular season home winning percentage than Kansas City, which has an incredible 27-5 (.844) record. Nearly 30 years after the first plans were being devised for Kansas City's unique two-stadium set-up, other metropolitan areas including Cincinnati and Baltimore are, only now, in the process of attempting to construct similar facilities." |
