Chicago Bear History

"The Bears are one of the oldest franchises in the NFL being formed in 1920. The first major signing the team made was in 1925 when they inked Red Grange to a deal. In 1933, the first year of the NFL, the Bears beat the Giants in the NFL’s first championship game 23-21. A new era in Chicago began in 1965 when the team drafted Gale Sayers and Dick Butkus. Sayers set an NFL rookie record with 22 rushing touchdown including 6 in one game. Butkus would become the standard by which every other middle linebacker in the game is compared. In 1970, the team played its last game in Wrigley Field and moved to Soldier Field. After some futile years, the Bears returned to the NFL elite in 1984. They advanced to the NFC Championship game (losing to San Francisco) and Walter Payton broke Jim Brown's all-time NFL rushing record. The loss in the '84 title game set the stage for the 1985 season in which the Bears posted shutouts in the both playoff games before ripping the Patriots, 46-10, in Super Bowl XX. The Bears won the NFC Central division each of the next three seasons, but could never get past the NFC title game."

Chicago Bear Information

"The Bears play in the National Football Conference North Division. Division rivals include the Detroit Lions, Green Bay Packers and Minnesota Vikings. Major rivalries include Bears vs. Bucs, Bears vs. Saints and Bears vs. Browns."

Soldier Field

"The Bears play their home games in Soldier Field located in Chicago. Three of the NFL's ten-biggest single-game attendance totals have occurred at games involving the Chicago Bears, two at Soldier Field. The Bears have called Soldier Field home for more than thirty years after playing their first 50 seasons in Chicago at Wrigley Field. In the first professional game at the then-mammoth stadium, the Bears defeated the Chicago Cardinals 10-0 on November 11, 1926."
