"The Australian Open is managed by Tennis Australia, formerly the Lawn Tennis Association of Australia (LTAA), and was first played at the Warehouseman's Cricket Ground in St Kilda Road, Melbourne. It was first played in 1905 as The Australasian Championships, and became the Australian Championships in 1927 and the Australian Open in 1969. The youngest men's singles: champion is Ken Rosewall who did it at age 18 years and 2 month in 1953. The youngest women's singles champion was Martina Hingis who did it when she was 16 years and 3 months old in 1997. The most consecutive victories for a men’s champion is 5, accomplished by Roy Emerson from 1963-1967. For the women, Margaret Smith won seven in a row from 1960-1966. In 2002, Andre Agassi won for the men while Jennifer Capriati was the women’s champ." |
