Baltimore Oriole
History
"In 1953, Baltimore made its stamp on the MLB landscaped when it acquired the St. Louis Browns baseball team, and re-named it the Orioles. In 1966, the Birds brought the first title home to Baltimore behind the inspired play of newly acquired Frank Robinson. In 1970, the Orioles capitalized on one of their three World Series appearances in the 70s when they beat the Big Red Machine to capture their second title behind the MVP play of Brooks Robinson. In 1982, rookie Cal Ripken made his debut with the club, and foreshadowing things to come, went 3 for 5 with a homer on Opening Day. The following season, Cal took home the title when the Orioles beat the Phillies to win the World Series. In 1991, the club’s final year in Memorial Stadium, saw Cal win the MVP, All-Star MVP, Major League Player of the Year and Home Run Derby. In ’95, Ripken became MLB’s Iron Man playing in his 2,131 consecutive game."
Baltimore Oriole
Information
"The Orioles play in the American League East Division. Division rivals include the New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox, Tampa Bay Devil Rays and Toronto Blue Jays. Major rivalries include Orioles vs. Yankees, Orioles vs. Blue Jays and Orioles vs. Oakland."
Camden Yards
"The Orioles play in Camden Yards in the heart of downtown Baltimore. The $100 million stadium seats approximately 48,000 people and features a 25-high fence in right field. The success of Oriole Park at Camden Yards inspired other cities (Cleveland, Denver, etc.) to build their own versions of this new Retro style ballpark. Eli Jacobs, who owned the Orioles when the ballpark was built, wanted to call it Oriole Park. Another owner preferred Camden Yards. Finally, they agreed on Oriole Park at Camden Yards."
