Seattle Mariner
History
"The Mariners started playing the Major Leagues in 1977. In 1982, Gaylord Perry recorded his 300th victory when he beat the Yankees 7-3. In 1987, the M’s called up Edgar Martinez who went on to be the best hitter in club history, also that year, Ken Griffey Jr. entered the teams minor league system. In 1989, Junior made his debut in Seattle by hitting a home run on the first pitch he saw. Also, Randy Johnson made his debut for the club that year. In 1995, the team won its first division title as Lou Piniella took home Manager of the Year honor and Johnson won the Cy Young. In 1998, the club posted some impressive individual numbers. Alex Rodriguez became just the third player in Major League history in the 40-40 club as he hit 42 home runs and stole 46 bases. Ken Griffey Jr. became the third player in the 50-20 club with 56 home runs and 20 stolen bases. He was also the youngest player to reach 350 home runs. In 2001, led by Japanese sensation Ichiro Suzuki, the Mariners won an A.L. record 116 games during the regular season."

SAFECO Field
"The Mariners their home games in SAFECO Field located in downtown Seattle. The $516 million stadium opened in 1999 and can accommodate approximately 46,000 people for baseball games. Seattle's new ballpark for the Mariners was built to resemble the great ballparks of yesteryear. It is open-air and has real grass. It also features a retractable roof that covers the ballpark, but does not enclose it. The roof keeps fans, 47% of who come from outside the immediate Puget Sound area, protected from the wind and rain. A team store, picnic area, kids play area, on-site restaurant and a baseball museum are just a few of the fan amenities that make the ballpark a unique experience. There is also more variety in concessions and many more bathrooms than the Kingdome featured. A two-level modern press box is located behind home plate."
