San Francisco Giant
History
"The Giants can trace their baseball heritage to 1883, when they were the New York Gothams. In 1888, the team takes on the name Giants and wins its first world championship. In 1904, after crushing the rest of the league with a franchise-best 106 victories to capture the National League title, the Giants decline to participate in the newly created World Series because manager John McGraw and owner John Brush consider the American League a minor league. The following year, the team agrees to play in the fall classic. In 1922, the Giants finish of the Yankees for the second year in a row in the World Series to capture the title. In 1934, Carl Hubbell strikes out five future hall of famers in a row during the All-Star Game including Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Jimmie Fox, Joe Cronin and Al Simmons. In 1958, the team moved to San Francisco, the following year, Willie McCovey makes his MLB debut going 4-for-4 in the opener. In 1965, Willie Mays wins his second MVP award for the club. In 1981, Frank Robinson became the first black manager of a N.L. team when the Giants name him their manager. In 1989, the Giants reach their first World Series in 27 years though they lost to the Oakland A’s in a series marred by an earthquake. In 1993, Barry Bonds wins his third MVP for the team and in 2001 sets the Major League mark for home runs in a season with 73."

Pacific Bell Park
"The Giants play their home games in Pacific Bell Park located in downtown San Francisco. The $255 million stadium opened in 2000 and can seat approximately 41,000 fans for a baseball game. A unique public promenade has been developed along the waterfront from right field to center field where fans of all ages can watch the game through a fence at no charge and where San Franciscans can enjoy new access to the bay 365 days a year. The first privately financed ballpark in Major League Baseball since Dodger Stadium (1962), the Giants' new home features an inspiring nine-foot statue of America's greatest living ballplayer, Willie Mays, at the public entrance; Portuguese water dogs who fetch home runs that splash into McCovey Cove, an 80-foot Coca-Cola bottle with playground slides and miniature Pac Bell Park behind left field that has become a magnet for kids of all of ages; and mass public transit that rivals any sports complex in the world."
