Montreal Expo History

"The Expos joined the baseball in 1969 when MLB introduced two new teams to the league. Two-weeks into their first season the Expos record their first no-hitter, a 7-0 blanking of the Phillies by Bill Stoneman. A year later, Stoneman hurls his second no-no. In 1981, the Expos capture their first division title behind Andre Dawson and Gary Carter. In 1991, Dennis Martinez pitched the 15th perfect game in MLB history for the club beating the Dodgers 2-0. In 1997, Pedro Martinez becoming the first Expo pitcher to win the Cy Young award."

Montreal Expo Information

"The Expos play in the National League East Division. Division rivals include the Philadelphia Phillies, New York Mets, Atlanta Braves and Florida Marlins. Major rivalries include Expos vs. Mets, Expos vs. Marlins and Expos vs. Phillies."

Olympic Stadium

"The Expos play their home games in Olympic Stadium located in downtown Montreal. The stadium opened in 1976 and is thought to have cost around $1 billion to complete. Olympic Stadium was not completed on time due to a strike by construction workers. The (556-foot-high) leaning tower used to retract the roof stood half finished until 1987 when the roof was finally completed. It took another 2 years before the roof, made from 60,696 square feet of Kevlar weighing 50 tons, became retractable. Problems with opening and closing the roof led to its permanent closure. In the spring of 1998, the orange Kevlar roof was removed and a $26 million opaque blue roof replaced it later in the year. The new roof does not open."
