St. Louis Cardinal
History
"In 1876, the St. Louis Brown Stockings started a baseball tradition in St. Louis. The team changed its name to the Cardinals in 1900. In 1922, Roger Hornsby won the Triple Crown for the team and two years later, he won the batting title with a .424 average. In 1926, the team won its first World Series. Grover Cleveland Alexander won games two and six in the series then came on in the seventh game to register the save. IN 1948, Stan Musial won his third MVP for the team leading the majors in nearly every offensive category. In 1964, the Cards acquired Lou Brock for the Cubs. In 1968, Bob Gibson had a 22-9 record, hurled 13 shutouts, had a 15-game winning streak and allowed only 38 earned runs in 304 innings for a 1.12 ERA, a Major League record for a pitcher who worked more than 300 innings. He set a World Series strikeout record with 17 in the first game against Detroit. His remarkable season earned him the National League's Cy Young and Most Valuable Player awards. In 1977, Lou Brock breaks Ty Cobb's career stolen base mark with number 893. In 1998, Mark McGwire broke Roger Maris’ single season home run record when he belted 70 dingers."

Busch Stadium
"The Cardinals play their home games in Busch Stadium located in downtown St. Louis. The stadium opened in 1966 and seats approximately 50,000 for a baseball game. Recent improvements include the installation in 1997 of a hand-operated scoreboard flanked by flag decks commemorating the club's World Series championships and retired numbers; the return in 1996 to a natural-grass playing surface, which replaced the artificial turf that had been in place since 1970; the opening in 1996 of the Family Pavilion, featuring a variety of games and attractions for families and children, and Homer's Landing, a picnic area located above the bullpen in left-center field; and the return of a more traditional ""ballpark green"" color scheme for the outfield fence and stadium trim."
