Washington Wizard History

"The Washington Wizards began as the Chicago Packers in 1961, spent several seasons in Baltimore, and finally landed in Washington, as the Bullets, in 1974. The Bullets developed into a good team in the 1970s, built around center Wes Unseld and talented scorer and rebounder Elvin Hayes. Washington made it to the NBA Finals four times during the 1970s and defeated the Seattle Supersonics for the NBA championship in 1978. The team took on the name Wizards after the 1997 season and recently added The Wizard of the NBA, Michael Jordan, to its roster. With Jordan at the helm the Wiz are once again a competitive force on the NBA landscape."

Washington Wizard Information

"The Wizards play in the NBA Eastern Conference Atlantic Division. Division rivals include the Miami Heat, New Jersey Nets, New York Knicks, Orlando Magic, Philadelphia 76ers and Boston Celtics. Major rivalries include Wizards vs. Sixers, Wizards vs. Magic and Wizards vs. Lakers."

MCI Center

"The Wizards play at the MCI Center in the heart of Washington D.C. The $260 million complex was completed in 1997 and is also home to NHL’s Capitals, the WNBA’s Mystics and the Georgetown University men’s basketball team. The arena seats about 20,000 fans for basketball games and also hosts a number of concerts and entertainment events. George Strait, Disney on Ice and the 2003 World Championships of Figure Skating are just some of the scheduled events at the MCI Center this year."
