History
"The Golden Sate Warriors, formerly the Philadelphia Warriors, have been in the NBA since its inaugural season in 1950. As the Philadelphia Warriors the team won its first NBA championship in 1956 and in 1959 welcomed one of the games all time greats in Wilt Chamberlain. During the 1961 campaign in which Wilt ""the Stilt"" averaged 50 points a game he dropped the league’s first and only 100-point game against the New York Knicks. The following year the Warriors moved to San Francisco and then in 1971, as attendance dwindled, the team moved across the Bay to Oakland and renamed itself the Golden State Warriors in an effort to garner more fans. The move worked and with the added fan support the Golden State Warriors won the 1975 NBA championship. The team spent the 1996 season in San Jose while its home in Oakland was being remodeled. The Warriors boast a number of great players including original Dream Teamer Chris Mullin, Rick Barry, Wilt Chamberlain and Nate Thurmond."
