San Antonio Spur
History
"The San Antonio Spurs joined the league in 1976 but had been in existence since 1967. First as the Dallas Chaparrals the team suffered through many losing season before moving to San Antonio in 1973. Later that year, San Antonio made another big move by acquiring George ""Ice Man"" Gervin. Although Gervin didn’t win a championship with the Spurs who was an exciting player who widened the teams fan base. In 1987 the teams future started to turn around when it drafted 7-foot center David Robinson. The following year, the team went from worst to first. However the pieces didn’t all come together until 1996 when they drafted Tim Duncan. Duncan and Robinson proved to be too much for the league to handle and together they won the championship in 1999. With the Twin Towers still together San Antonio promises to be competitive in the future."
