New York Knick
History
"The New York Knickerbockers, now referred to as the Knicks, are one of only two charter members of the NBA still in their original city (the other being the Celtics). The Knicks have celebrated two championships in their history but have been contenders for most of their existence. The early 70s was the team’s pinnacle when it won two titles led by Walt Clyde Frazier and Willis Reed. In the 90s, behind head coach Pat Riley and later Jeff Van Gundy, the Knicks set a standard for physical, intimidating defense and were the Chicago Bulls main rivals during the Bulls championship runs. Although former center Patrick Ewing never won a title he is widely considered the best player in Knicks history. Although beset by injuries lately, the Knicks are always a team that competes in the Eastern conference."
New York Knick Information
"The Knicks play in the NBA Eastern Conference Atlantic Division. Division rivals include the Miami Heat, New Jersey Nets, Orlando Magic, Philadelphia 76ers, Washington Wizards and Boston Celtics. Major rivalries include Knicks vs. 76ers, Knicks vs. Celtics, Knicks vs. Nets, Knicks vs. Pacers and Knicks vs. Bulls."
Madison Square Garden
"The Knicks play in venerable Madison Square Garden one of the oldest arenas in the country. The arena, which went under a $200 million renovation in 1991 seats approximately 20,000 people for NBA games. The Garden is home to the Knicks, the NHL’s Rangers, the WNBA’s Liberty and the St. John’s Red Storm NCAA basketball team. The current Garden is actually the fourth arena in New York to be so dubbed after the first was built in the late 1800s and hosted the original Barnum and Baily Circus which was original called the Barnum’s Monster Classical and Geological Hippodrome. Madison Square Garden hosts a wide range of entertainment events including the Westminster Kennel Dog Show, the Harlem Globetrotters, Ja Rule and Tim McGraw." |
